While the Windsors were making headlines throughout November thanks to a certain wedding engagement and their Facebook debut, Do Tank Studios were busy taking another of the nation’s favourite families online.

Comedy channel GOLD commissioned two documentaries, The Royle Family Portraits and The Royle Family: Behind the Sofa, to air in November and they asked to come up with an entertaining way of getting viewers involved.

Given the GOLD audience profile, Facebook was the perfect medium to allow users to have a bit of Royle Family-related fun at the same time as increasing awareness of the shows by sharing details on their profile page.

With this in mind we built Make Yourself into a Royle Family Portrait, a Flash-based Facebook app that allows you to become one of the gang.

Just upload your photo to the app and fine-tune it using the built-in editing tools and you can be part of the Royle family group shot, see what you’d look like with Norma’s grey curls or slob out on Jim’s armchair while wearing a paper crown.
